Up early and breakfast before the boys. Pack our suitcases for our train and last trip to London. Seen as out too for first time in two and a half days. Still cool though. Leave luggage in lobby for taxi when it is supposed to come at 10:45 and go for a walk to Vincent St. paul and short distance from hotel. Back and wait for taxi.
At station we have lunch - eggs, ham, chips, etc. 5$ for 4.
Train is nice one too. Most all trains have been very nice.
Weather is icky. Train ride longer than scheduled. Have sandwiches and beer on train so as to not spend too much on dinner. Boat was commissioned in 1942. Old. Crowded - funny. The trip shrouded in eerie fog. Dave Tom and I muddle on all kinds of things. Try to see the cliffs of Dover but all we can do is listen to the fog horns. Actually it is fascinating and afterlong we see Dover Castle, pier restaurant light house - that is we missed them in the nest!
After customs we take the boat train to Victoria Station. "The Golden Arrow." Because of fog of course, we arrive way late. Take taxi to London Gardens and horror of horrors our accommodations are not in order. London House looks nice, but it is not going to be for us. The bloak in charge gets us two rooms at Holland Court Hotel. No private bath! Rooms real big but funny. My bed a killer. We now are nervous for fear our plans being ruined. City S.S, tomorrow at 9:30 and we are way across town. Go to the nearest pub for a pint of beer and cokes and go to bed.
Our train trip through France. We see pleasant countryside wild poppies. Go through England first. White cliffs or so we see some on our foggy way. Nice fog, countryside too.
