      Darling,

Reckon as how this is close to the big "it".  We haven't been told much but we won't go over from this field.  There's no way of finding out exactly how long it'll be, but we started to draw overseas equipment yesterday so -.   It may be days weeks or months.  Some more just asettin and awaitin.  About all they do at this field is take care of legal matters and make sure all of our records are in order.

The sun finally came out today.  It would have been a swell day to go to the Dunes with you or ride with you or drive along the country with you or fly with you.  It's too bad that such a swell day in such a swell country has to be wasted.

Sometimes I wonder how dare these Emperors and Dictators deprive so many people the pleasure of being alive and free.  There's so much to this world and it's such a great gift to be on it.  How can such a few bad men cause so many good men to lose all this.  The ones who start wars must never have known the thrill of seeing a sunset over the mountains or trees blowing in thee breeze or fields of different colored grass.  They can't have seen the ocean in the moonlight or the desert in the evening.  They can't have felt as I feel being in love with you.  If they had felt any of these wonders of being alive they wouldn't send their own people to die.  They couldn't possibly win because they don't know what we are fighting to protect.

How can a person be so greedy for power when he can't appreciate just the power of being alive?

We were busy until noon today.  After dinner I sat in the sun reading and thinking of us.  Gee Whiz, that music from "a Song to remember" keeps haunting me.  Fried pea pods keep floating around in my head too.  Say, I've finally found a solution for our major trouble.  From now on we'll order Bourbon served in thin delicate wine glasses, then we can enjoy ourselves without shocking bar tenders.  Ain't I clever?

Cigarettes aren't so scarce around here so I'll send you some in a couple of days.  So far I've had just about time to smoke them, let alone buy any.

Honey, when I get back let's be together from then on.  No matter what problems there are let's tackle them together.  As long as it's you and me we can figure things out.  Even if we can't figure them out let's be mixed up together.

This is quite a field.  There are about 30,000 officers here.  I get scared stiff every time I see a P.F.C.  The style of architecture isn't so pleasing either.  The squadrons are lettered according to their nearness to the most used buildings.   So I had to end up in "z". On a clear day I can almost see the mess hall.  The only good thing about the place is - Hmmm - couldn't think of it at the moment.  Oh well, I dare say I'll survive it.

I don't know how long I'll be here but it should be at least two weeks. I haven't gotten my trunk from B. Raton yet so I'm scanty rations.  Much laundry soap being used.

Gee Gosh, Golly, I love you.

     Good night Sweetheart

      an awful lot of love

       Ray
