Dear Shirl,

There are a mess of things floating around in my head.  I really appreciated your letter.  For the first time I feel that you really sounded off on the beam.  Some of the things you said mix me up a bit, some were wrong, but most of it made good sense.  I have a lot of things to say myself, but I won't write them.  The darned pen doesn't follow my mind.

One thing I will say right now I never will play record fiddle again.  Not for you or anyone else.  The rest I'll tell you in person.  I'll be home on Friday, april 9th. If you want me to meet you at the bank, I think we both could get a bit of starightening up.  It will probably be for the last time because we both have definite ideas and they don't agree.  On some points I'm sticking to my guns.

I'm not disgusted with myself.  I'm glad it happened.  If I destroyed any of the independence you were talking about, I'm damned glad.  Thats not for my sake.  I can't use it , and won't even try to.

Hey, why don't you write down all the things I ever did that you did not think much of.  I'll bet you could make quite a list.

You'll never be able to just start from scratch, toots.  There are too many things you can't get away from.  Everything will probably work out OK.  I really hope so.

I think it would do us both good to talk it over on the 9th.  I hope you can make it.  Will you please let me know as soon as possible.  If you can't make it I want to make other plans.

I must be one pistol of a teacher.  Six students fainted on me in two days.  The fellas are all calling me killer Konen.  Hah!  Three days ago the Phase Chief asked me when I wanted my furlough.  I said May 18 to 28.  He said OK.  What a set up !  I had to fight like hell for three days off.  I asked for a furlough twice and was turned down.  It doesn't make sense but its ok by me.

Spring arrived here Tuesday, but was beaten away by a blizzard Wednesday.  What a climate.

I gotta go score some students to death now so I'll sign off.  Be seeing you, huh?

          Love and Kisses

            Ray
